Podcast: Tony Conrad on Sphere

Tony Conrad @ Butler & Chef
In the final installment of this morning's Sphereorama, here is a podcast interview with Tony Conrad, CEO of the new blog search service. I talked with Tony a few weeks ago when I was visiting Southpark and getting my Web dev on. We talk, of course, about why they felt compelled to build a new blog search service, the features included in today's release, and the new culture of sharing powering most of the Web ventures we are excited about.

You can check out the full Weblogs Worknotes set of casts, listen to the MP3 (~16 MB) or subscribe to the feed.

Live from Bangalore

Last night I did podcasts with Alex & Jay Fichialos.  They had just finished up Barcamp Bangalore.  I've put the casts into the Weblogs Worknotes stream, and you can also listen in to the Barcamp Bangalore podcast.

Weblogs Worknotes: Lane Becker

The latest addition to the Weblogs Worknotes podcast is a chat with Lane Becker, one of the founding members of Adaptive Path. Lane is heading up a new line of business at AP, where the user experience gurus will offer their services to start-ups in exchange for equity. Other topics include how AP helped Princess Cruise Lines rethink their entire consumer booking process, how technology companies can improve their product development processes and why South Park, SF is, once again, the hip hop happening spot for all things Web.

Dig it.

Play the podcast at the Weblogs Worknotes page using the Flash player. Download it here (~65 MB mp3). Or subscribe to the feed for Weblogs Worknotes.

Speaking Of: Refresh Dallas Tonight

Picture 3-2
I’ll be leading a roundtable discussion on social media tonight at Refresh Dallas with wicked smart boys John Keehler, Jake Mckee & Blake Burris. Starts at 7:00 up in Plano. Come hang out with us.

Here’s the Upcoming page for Refresh, which happens each month.

Presentation: Get Small Fast: Microbranding & Next Gen Social Media

We’re way beyond the blog. Not that blogging’s done. Far from it. We’re just at the beginning, but already social media means much more. Look at the growth in MySpace, YouTube, podcasting. Flickr’s on the cover of Newsweek; danah boyd is on with Bill O’Reilly (what? what?). We’re not in Kansas anymore.

This installment of Refresh Dallas is a roundtable chat with a few local social media mavens (Brian Oberkirch, John Keehler, Jake McKee, Blake Burris). There may be a t-shirt given away to someone who says something inspiring. (T-shirts & stickers are Web 2.0 costs of entry, eh? “Our software is free. Our schwag rocks.”) Let’s talk.

Social Media Mashpit in Dallas Tomorrow Night

81417848 18Beede10F M-1
Several Dallas Barcampers are getting back together to kick off what (I hope) becomes a routine thang: a jam session of folks interested in social media. Tomorrow night we can talk a bit about what we each want to get out of such a working group. But, in the spirit of factoryjoe’s Mashpits , I also have an idea we can all work on.
Tim Williamson is the founder of The Idea Village, an entreprenuer bootstrapping/launching pad in New Orleans. The devastation all these months later isn’t just physical — ‘our social networks are destroyed,’ he says.
He did a triage grant program. Now wants to move it to the next level, making Idea Village the place people can go to get or contribute information & expertise so badly needed in the community. Idea Village, 2.0.
Our mission, should we choose to accept, is to whiteboard up some ideas for how the Idea Village can leverage social media to aggregate, plus up, and spread info around NOLA.
Tell anyone who might be interested. RSVP at the Upcoming page. We can order in some Gloria’s.

LazyWeb Ad Vetting

Wwad
Sure, it’s loopy: a print ad for a social media company. True dat, but we have a free B&W print ad as part of a speaking gig, so we’re asking for your feedback. Is this any good for the curiosity of media planners, marketers, agency types?
Do tell.

SXSW Geek Lunch on Tuesday

Picture 4-3
We’re working furiously this morning as we get ready to head off to SXSW. We’ll be there through Tuesday. We’ll be blogging & snapping photos and attending to some things that just won’t stop for the annual geekorama. If you’re around Austin this weekend, do say hello.
And if you’d like to join me, Jon Lebkowsky and Evelyn Rodriguez for a geek lunch on Recovery 2.0 and disaster blogging, please do so.

Our friend Jake McKee is also doing a geek lunch on his experience leading LEGO’s global community group. Should be good.

Dallas Roundtable Talk

I gave a Blogging 101 talk at the Dallas Roundtable on Tuesday at the Park City Club.  I've met a bunch of the DRT folks at events, but this was the first time I got to address the whole group.  A super sharp gathering of folks.  The goal of the DRT is to bring together business leaders from every segment (one from each vertical) to share knowledge and networks.  With the DRT, it's likely that you're only one degree of separation from any business leader in the DFW area.

Here are the slides I did for that talk.

Here are links to a few of the sites we discussed:

Officially Part of the Bubble

Picture 9_1.png

First, we were in on the whitehot Naked Conversations book launch party at Rancho Techcrunch on Friday. Today, four of our logos show up on Stabilo’s extended mashup of Web 2.0 logos. We’re not even serious about egorRSS, yet there it is. WeblogsWork, PodServe and SimpleTicket are also there. Now all we need is an interview on Geek Entertainment TV & the trifecta is complete.

Surely venture funding isn’t far behind. We’ll invite you to the crazydelicious launch party, of course.

Podcast Interview with Blake re: Barcamp Dallas

I Cut a Show While Blake Wasn't Looking
Blake Burris (of CocoaRadio fame) did a podcast interview with us at Barcamp Dallas. We talk about why we think it’s important to do things like Barcamp, what Weblogs Work is about, and where we might take all this from here.

Audio of Barcamp Dallas Presentations

Jeremy Kleindl rocks the house by posting the audio from the Barcamp Dallas presentations that happened in the main room. This is going to be a feature in future BarSpy runs.

Updated:  Even better, here is a podcast feed with these presentations, created with Podserve.  Thanks, Alex.
