G1 selling faster than the iPhone?

The ShopSavvy barcode scanner in action by you.HTC reported they would ship around 600,000 G1s this year.  Forrester figured 300,000 to 400,000.  Turns out they were both wrong - really wrong!  HTC is going to ship more than a million of the hot little handsets before the end of year according to Digitimes.  This is a 67% under estimate!  We are seeing more 1,000 new users register each day - if this is any indication of sales I think it is going to be a great Christmas.  T-Mobile, you rock!  Via Silicon Alley Insider.

I was reviewing my favorite new source, Valleywag, and I was reminded that it took Apple 74 days to sell a million phones.  The G1 will have sold more than a million in 70 days!  Holy bat-phone!

  1. There’s a big difference between shipping units and selling them to customers, no?

“We only have one year of data for the iPhone. Last year, Apple sold 1.1 million iPhones in Q4 2007. It went on to sell 2.3 million iPhones in Q1 2008 — a multiplier of 2.09…” http://daringfireball.net/2008/10/the_phone_company

That was before the newer, cheaper iPhone 3G was released. And those are actual sales to customers, not just shipped items to stock stores.

  2. There are going to be more than 1,000,000 G1s sold before the end of the year (70 days after the first G1 shipped). There should be significantly more G1s shipped than the 1MM sold.
