Are you hungry? ShopSavvy now has food!

The team here has been busy getting ready for the official launch of ShopSavvy along with the T-Mobile’s G1 mobile phone.  Much of our work has been on the business development side of the house working with retailers here in the US and in Europe.  Our early testing revealed that we had a few blind spots in our pricing data. First, we didn’t have ANY food items in our database.  Ironically, when we would hand the G1 to anyone the first thing they would scan was bottled water.  Bottled water?  Who cares about the price of bottled water?  No one, but it was the handiest product that had a UPC symbol. We decided to get as many food related items into the system prior to launch.

I am pleased to announce that w recently we added approximately 800,000 food-related UPCs to our system (if you have a demo G1 you will be able to scan food and receive descriptions, but pricing won’t be available until the 22nd).  Not only did we add almost a million grocery items, but we have added 30 brick and mortar grocery chains in every major US city to our system.  This means we will be able to provide compelling local pricing data to users.  Stay tuned for more grocery related news.
