Coke heads off bloggers at the pass!
Almost before AdRants pressed the ‘publish’ button on their post regarding Paul Papanek’s run in with Coke’s lawyers the company reversed its position and allowed Paul to keep ’spec Coke ads’ on his website.
Bloggers began to talk about the issue back on August 30th and within a week the story was dead because Coke correctly read the ‘winds of the blogosphere’ and allowed the innocent infraction against their logo and brand. Coke avoided the trap that FedEx and Dell have found themselves in earlier this summer.
In this new Media 2.0/PR 2.0/Web 2.0 landscape companies must have their ear to web, move very fast and respond in rational and reasonable ways. Note that Coke didn’t use a blog – they just talked to Paul and apologized for the misunderstand and asked that he post a simple notice.
